Bridging the Gap Between Information and Nursing:

Advancing technology has drastically changed healthcare delivery.  Contemporary healthcare consumers are engaging in a complex technological infrastructure like never before.  While many healthcare consumers are aware of such advancements as computerized medical equipment and monitoring, they are likely not aware of the growing number of professionals who specialize behind the scenes in this area of study.

Nursing informatics is a field which combines nursing science and knowledge with computer and information sciences.  Nursing informatics specialists develop and refine technology systems to support patients and nurses with the use of this technology in the healthcare arena (Staggers & Bagley-Thompson, 2002).

The purpose of this site is to provide an educational overview of nursing informatics and the impact nursing informatics specialists have through retrospective, current, and prospective exploration.
